Issue #24 — Spiritual Intelligence: How to Discern What Is Really Happening
Not every battle looks like a battle.
Not every voice is what it claims to be.
Not every opportunity is from God.
Some things feel right…
but are wrong.
Some things look good…
but are sent to distract, delay, or derail.
If you cannot discern,
you will misinterpret what you’re facing—
and fight the wrong battle.
Feature Teaching: Spiritual Intelligence — Seeing Beyond the Surface
Discernment is not optional.
It is essential.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”
— Hosea 4:6
Spiritual intelligence is the ability to:
see clearly
judge correctly
respond accurately
Without it, you may be:
calling attack “normal”
calling distraction “opportunity”
calling delay “timing”
1. Not Everything Is What It Appears
The enemy rarely shows up obviously.
He operates through disguise.
“For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.”
— 2 Corinthians 11:14
That means deception often looks:
helpful
logical
beneficial
Discernment reveals what is hidden beneath appearance.
2. Discernment Begins in the Mind
Your thoughts are the first battlefield.
If your thinking is not aligned,
your discernment will be distorted.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
— Romans 12:2
A renewed mind can:
recognize truth
reject deception
filter what enters
Without renewal, everything feels confusing.
3. Truth Is the Standard of Discernment
Discernment is not based on feelings.
It is based on truth.
“Your word is truth.”
— John 17:17
If you don’t know the Word,
you cannot accurately discern:
voices
situations
motives
Truth is the filter that exposes deception.
4. Discernment Separates Source from Surface
Two things can look identical—
but come from completely different sources.
Jesus discerned:
motives
spirits
intentions
“He knew what was in man.”
— John 2:25
Spiritual intelligence asks:
Where is this coming from?
What is the root?
What is the outcome if I follow this?
5. Timing Requires Discernment
Not every “open door” is for now.
Even good things can be mistimed.
“To everything there is a season…”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
Without discernment, you may:
move too early
move too late
miss what matters
Timing is a major part of spiritual intelligence.
6. Discernment Protects Your Territory
What you allow in your life
shapes your environment.
If you lack discernment,
you will allow things that weaken you.
“Watch and pray…”
— Matthew 26:41
Discernment keeps your territory:
guarded
aligned
protected
