God’s Battle Axe: Standing Strong in the Lord

Aug 23, 2025

“You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; with you I will destroy kingdoms.”Jeremiah 51:20

A Lesson from the Frontline

Marcus was a young believer who loved God but often felt powerless when life’s challenges came at him. Bills piled up, relationships strained, and temptations weighed him down. Every time he tried to fight back, he relied on his own strength. He quoted Scriptures he didn’t fully believe, prayed prayers he didn’t wait to hear answers for, and grew frustrated when nothing seemed to change.

One day, an older mentor asked him: “Marcus, whose strength are you fighting in—yours, or the Lord’s?”

That question cut deep. Marcus realized that while he was doing “Christian” things, he wasn’t truly abiding in Christ. He was swinging a sword without armor, fighting without the Commander’s strategy.

When Marcus learned to lean into God’s strength, his life changed. He discovered that the battle wasn’t about trying harder, but about abiding in Christ, putting on God’s armor daily, and recognizing the schemes of the enemy. His story is a picture of every believer’s journey: victory comes when we fight in the Lord’s strength, not our own.

Be Strong in the Lord

The Apostle Paul gives us this command in Ephesians 6:10–11 (NKJV):
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Notice what Paul says:

  1. Be strong in the Lord (not in yourself).
  2. Put on the whole armor of God (not just part of it).

This is how we win spiritual battles.

Abiding: The Secret to Strength

Jesus explains it this way in John 15:5–8 (NKJV):

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing… If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

Abiding is more than a church service or a quick prayer. It means:

  • Word-Centered Obedience — letting Scripture guide your choices.
  • Prayer Aligned with God’s Will — not asking for things to impress others, but for the Kingdom to advance.
  • Love in Community — living out Christ’s love in relationships.

When you abide, your prayers shift from “God give me things” to “God, let Your Kingdom come.” That’s where true power flows.

The Enemy’s Schemes

Spiritual warfare is real. The enemy’s tactics often fall into three categories:

  1. Deception — making you doubt God’s Word.
  2. Temptation — luring you into sin or compromise.
  3. Distraction — pulling you away from God’s purpose.

The Bible shows us this battle clearly:

  • Isaiah 14 reveals Satan’s rebellion, rooted in pride.
  • Revelation 12 shows the devil cast down, defeated by the blood of the Lamb and the word of testimony.

Your struggle isn’t against people—it’s against spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). But the good news is this: the enemy has already lost.

How to Walk in Victory

Here are five truths to remember:

  1. You are God’s battle axe—His weapon to advance the Kingdom.
  2. Strength comes from God’s ability, not your own.
  3. Abiding in Christ ensures fruit, answered prayer, and authority.
  4. Satan’s main tools are lies, temptation, and distractions.
  5. Consistency matters—there are no “days off” in spiritual warfare.

Practical Action Steps

  1. Pray on the Armor Daily (Ephesians 6:10–18).
  2. Stay Rooted in the Word—let Scripture shape your thoughts.
  3. Guard Your Heart & Mind—not every voice is from God.
  4. Speak Your Testimony—it silences the accuser.

Warfare Declarations

Speak these aloud today:

  • I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
  • I put on the whole armor of God and stand against every scheme of the enemy.
  • I abide in Christ, and His words abide in me; I bear much fruit to the glory of God.
  • I overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony.
  • I am God’s battle axe—through me, strongholds are broken, and the Kingdom advances.

Closing Prayer

Father, I thank You that You have called me to be Your battle axe in the earth. I choose to be strong in You and not in my own strength. I put on Your full armor and stand firm against every scheme of the enemy. Let my life abide in Christ, bear much fruit, and glorify You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

👉 Reflection Questions for You:

  • Where in your life have you been fighting in your own strength instead of God’s?
  • How can you deepen your abiding in Christ this week?
  • Which piece of the armor of God do you need to intentionally “put on” today?

You are God’s battle axe. Rise up, abide in Christ, and walk in the victory already won for you.
